2015 PENSOLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES ANNOUNCED

Portland, OR – PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy today announced dates for its 2015 FN PLATFORM|CAPSOLES, a series of three-day professional development courses in partnership with the industry’s largest footwear tradeshow in North America, FN PLATFORM, according to PENSOLE founder D’Wayne Edwards.

The courses will be held in Las Vegas to coincide with the winter FN PLATFORM tradeshow, from Saturday, February 14 through Monday, February 16.

Created to increase the knowledge of footwear professionals and develop future leaders, CAPSOLES are targeted at footwear designers, material designers, color designers, material developers, product developers, product managers and product merchandisers with zero to five years experience.

“Young professionals represent the future of our industry,” Edwards said. “And our CAPSOLES offer the specific industry insight, knowledge and inspiration that up-and-coming footwear professionals need to prepare for new roles and become future leaders.”

CAPSOLES will be held in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s North Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, February 14
You’ve Got Briefed!
Overview: Explore the tools to write better briefs, better understand how designers think and what inspires them, develop a better relationship with designers, create new and better product
Target attendees: Footwear designers, product managers, product merchandisers

Sunday, February 15
Materials Matter
Overview: PENSOLE MLab’s CAPSOLE empowers the designer to become more effective in his/her creative role by learning the fundamentals of CMF (color, materials and finishing), creating a vendor network and leveraging consumer knowledge with strategic color/materials palettes
Target attendees: Color/materials designers, material developers, footwear designers, product managers

Monday, February 16
Product Storytelling
Overview: Product storytelling can be found everywhere throughout branding, names, design, packaging, color, materials and graphics. This course will explore how product storytelling can impact a business and its relationship with its consumers
Target attendees: Footwear designers, product managers, product merchandisers

Faculty:
Suzette Henry is a color and materials design innovator with a career that spans over 30 years at brands such as Marithe and Francois Girbaud, Guess and Jordan Brand, a division of Nike Inc. She founded the MLab at PENSOLE in partnership with the industry’s top color and material suppliers from the footwear, apparel, automotive and CMF industries to help redefine the industry.

D’Wayne Edwards, former footwear design director for Jordan Brand, a division of Nike Inc., and founder of PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy in Portland, Oregon, has received numerous design awards, owns more than 30 patents, and has designed more than 500 styles for some of today’s premiere athletes, such as Derek Jeter, Carmelo Anthony and Michael Jordan, over the course of his 25-year career.
